Universitas Teknologi Sumbawa & Olat Maras Power Empowers Sumbawa Through Sustainable Energy Innovation
Living in a tropical area with a surplus of solar power, the team of lecturers from Universitas Teknologi Sumbawa (UTS) who are interested in the energy field formed a campus-owned company Olat Maras Power. The business was built in 2020 and is based in Universitas Teknologi Sumbawa (UTS). It is engaged in electricity, renewable energy, and appropriate technology. “The potential of solar energy in Sumbawa is very promising so it would be better to utilize it,” said the CEO of Olat Maras Power, Ahmad Jaya, when met at the Olat Maras Power production workshop on Friday (05/08/2022).
With the help of New Energy Nexus, a funding company that supports clean energy, Olat Maras Power successfully created Cols Storage NgebuUTS, a fish storage box energized by electricity and solar power. The box is exclusively made to help the fishermen in Sumbawa Regency, especially those who live on Bungin island. Bungin island is one of the most populous islands in the world where the majority of the population work as fishermen. The tradition of the Bajo people who live on the island is they cannot go fishing on Friday. This rule sometimes causes a problem as the fish that they’ve caught would lose its value due to being rotten before it gets to the buyer.
