This initiative wants to increase the participation of marginalized groups in socio-cultural, economic and political development in Indonesia, as well as the benefits they obtain from local development.
Since 2000, the Foundation for the Empowerment of Women Headed of Families (PEKKA) has focused on empowering women heads of families to improve their standard of living and encourage them to be active in social and political life.
Data from the National Socio-Economic Survey of the Central Bureau of Statistics in 2020, overall there are 11.44 million families leaded by women, which means that 1 in 4 households in Indonesia are headed by a woman. The majority of women who are heads of households live below the poverty line.
