Cianjur Earthquake

People injured in an earthquake are treated at a hospital after a 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck the region of Cianjur in West Java, Indonesia on November 21, 2022. They have been spending the two days outside their house over fears that the 125 aftershocks may cause worst condition based on data from Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency.

The patients – mainly the elderly, women and children – have suffered broken bones and bruises after being struck by falling debris.

Sayang Hospital in Cianjur also has a shortage of medical personnel, who are overwhelmed by the sheer number of patients. Volunteers, police personnels and members of the Indonesian Military are assisting health workers.

According to data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), as of Sunday, the death toll of the quake hitting West Java on Monday rose to 321 and 11 others were missing with 73,874 people displaced. The quake also destroyed 62,628 houses.
